The Department of Chemistry started in 1984 is one of the leading departments in the College. It runs Certificate course, B.Sc. (UG) and M.Sc. Organic Chemistry (PG) programmes. The Department has excellent intake and also the best tradition of results. The students of Department have better options to go for various programmers such as M.Sc., B.Ed., Alcohol Tech, Sugar Tech etc. Some students, after completion of Post-graduation from various Universities and Colleges get placement in various industries like Sugar Industry, Alcohol Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, Polymer Industry, Fertilizer Industry, Soil and Water Testing Laboratories as Chemist, Chief Chemist, R & D Chemist, QC Officer etc,. Few students complete their Research Work (Ph.D.) from renowned Institutes like NCL, IISER, ICT, IIT and various Universities. Some of the students complete their Doctoral and Post-Doctoral research from abroad also. Some students also qualify MPSC, NET, SET, CSIR, GATE exam and earn JRF and SRF.
The Department also contributes to M.Sc. Agrochemicals and Pest Management (AGPM) an allied PG programme run by Chemical Sciences and Life Sciences, started in 2006 in the College.
The Department is now headed by Dr. S.S.Deokar. The teachers who worked in the Department viz Dr. M.A.Anuse, Dr.T.N.Shilimkar Dr. L.V.Nimbalkar, Dr.R.K.Patil, Dr. G.B.Kolekar, Dr. Mrs. D.R.Kamble are renowned teachers in the field of Chemical Sciences. All the teachers have contributed to academics and research and have worked at higher level committees.
The Department has well equipped Laboratories and other necessary infrastructural facilities.
