Shankarrao Mohite Mahavidyalaya, Akluj, formerly known as Arts, Commerce and Science College, Akluj, was established in 1967 by the visionary leader Sahakar Maharshi Shankarrao Mohite Patil with the noble objective of providing opportunities for higher education to the rural and economically needy sections of society. The college is run by its parent institution, Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Akluj, which has been dedicated to the cause of education and social upliftment.
The college was initially started with Arts and Commerce faculties. In response to the growing educational needs of the region, the Science faculty was introduced in 1983. Over the years, the institution has grown into a well-established multi-faculty college and has been reaccredited by NAAC with B++ grade in the Third Cycle, reflecting its commitment to quality education and continuous improvement.
At present, the college offers education from the 11th standard in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams to Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. programmes. Undergraduate programmes include B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc., while postgraduate programmes comprise M.A., M.Com., and M.Sc. The college also offers Ph.D. research programmes in English, History, and Electronics, demonstrating its strong research orientation. In addition, distance education programmes in B.A. and B.Com. are provided to promote inclusivity and lifelong learning.
