Zoology

The Shivaji University Kolhapur established the Department of Zoology on 1982 on the basis of subsidiary subjects for B. Sc. I & B.Sc. II as Head of the Department was Ms. K.V. Shah with two other faculty members Mr. Jore & Mr. Dubal. On 1983 appointed Shri. B. N. Ghorpade as a  part time teacher  till to 1 June 1986, onwards he was permanent teacher meanwhile previous 3 faculty members  were resigned and there was  Shri B. N. Ghorpade  as a Head of the Department . Thus on 1988 started B. Sc.III (Zoology).At these situation two new faculty members Mr. Kumbhar A.C. & Mr. Bhosale S.H.  Appointed as permanent teacher and last faculty member Ms. S.G. Bansode joined on 1991. M. Sc. (AGPM) Programme initiated on 2006 by the efforts of Dr. Abasaheb Deshmukh Hon. Principal of this college. The department is now recognized as Research center in Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar University, Solapur.

 Presently in this department working three Research Guides as being faculty members. Under the guidance of Dr. Abasaheb Deshmukh (Hon. Principal of this college), have been awarded Ph.D   to 3 students and 2 students have submitted Ph. D. Thesis. And under the guidance of Dr. Arvind Kumbhar (Associate Professor) have been awarded Ph.D. to 4 students.

Under the guidance of Head & Prof. Sudha Bansode, 2 Ph.D. students are working. The Zoology Department having well publications including 100 research papers & 5 books etc.

Principal Dr. A.L. Deshmukh faculty of Zoology Department has been honored by different Awards such as Government of Maharashtra State Best Teacher Award on 2007 and Award of SOF Best International Principal Award on 2018.

Head of the Department Prof/Dr. Sudha Bansode has been honored as International Best woman Faculty Award on 2019 and International Excellent faculty Award on 2020. She is a Distinguished Editorial Board Member of Many International Journals. Currently she is a International Speaker

Now the Zoology Department has proved as strongly active in Research and Academics & its potential as a Research center by attracting grants from UGC. In the last 15 years all faculty members have been achieved Ph.D. & post Doctorate degree. A faculty member as Prof. Sudha Bansode is a visiting Professor she has been completed her Post Doctoral research at University of California USA on 2017. She has been visited as an Academic visitor to many countries such as United Kingdom, USA, UAE, Thailand, Srilanka, Netherlands, Canada, Germany etc. She has been delivered many speeches as an International Speaker.

 The department is operating “RATNASHANKAR NISARG NISARG MANDAL co-ordinated by Dr. A.L. Deshmukh. Under this Programme Biology and Management is in progress, Field screening, host pathogen interactions, Biological control, Bird watching, etc.

The department annually gives prize named Shree Girjappa Bansode by Rupees 1000 along with Certificate to first ranker student in B. Sc. III (Zoology). During every year  many activities  would be organize as Study Tour, Field Visits, Study Visits , Bird watching Camps, Snakes Awareness Program, Blood Checking camps etc.
