ollege Library plays very important role in the process of higher education and it is heart of college. It is an institution which is a rich treasure of knowledge. It provides services to not only the common readers but also researchers, scholars and others. The major objectives of education can be fulfilled with the help of library. It collects information, processes and storage important information. From the ancient times storage and spread of education has been carried out through the Library.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTRE:

Shankarrao Mohite Mahavidyalaya has established in rural area in 1967 at Akluj, with selected few departments and the library was in a single room of the main building. There were only 1640 printed books and its cost was 15,527/-. In 2004, separate library building is constructed and named as Rabindranath Tagore (Library) who was an eminent educationist and Philosopher. Now, the Library has nearly 73,585 printed documents and subscribes 147 States, National and International level journals and periodicals/magazines. The Library is having a beautiful location, sufficient space and user oriented cupboards locating attractive arrangement. The library fulfills all the students’ requirement with sufficient collection supported by well educated staff. Library have various reference sources including Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Biographical Sources, Handbooks, Yearbooks, Gazettes and Annals etc. Library has subscribed 147 State, National and International level journals and periodicals/magazines. Our Library provides various services to the users.

  • Books and periodicals, which have been issued out, are liable to be recalled at any time, when so recalled they must be returned to the Library within the specified time.
  • Borrowers shall not issue any kind of Library materials to any other persons.
  • Readers shall not write upon, damage, or make any mark upon any book belonging to the library.
  • Erasure of any mark or stamp, label etc. on a book belonging to the Library will be considered as misconduct and justification/fine will be charged.
  • Any reader observing a defect, or damage to any book shall point out the same to the Library Staff immediately.
  • A borrower shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of a publication issued to him. In the event of its being lost or damaged, he/she will have to reimburse the cost/replace the documents as per the rules.
  • Outstanding Books issued to a member (all categories) will not be transferred in the name of any other members.
  • Overdue charges will be laid on borrowed books and other reading materials as per the rules, if returned after the due date.
  • The students appearing for competitive examination and NET/SET etc. will have to produce registration details.
  • No personal belongings including books are allowed inside the Stack Section.
  • Keep your personal belongings such as bags, books etc in the property counter. Not to keep any valuables such as cash, mobile phones, ATM cards etc in the counter. Library or their staffs are not responsible for loss of any valuables.
  • No borrowed books/journals will be allowed inside the library, except those brought for return.
  • Identity card and borrowers cards are must for making entry to the stack area
  • Always keep Identity Cards with you, while the library staff will carry out making use of Reading hall as checks.
  • Books borrowed on a particular day will not be accepted for return on the same day.
  • Mobile phones need to be switched off or kept in the silent mode before making entry to the library/reading hall. Talking over mobile inside the library/reading hall is strictly prohibited.
  • Maintain silence in the library.
  • Monday to Saturday : 7.30 a.m. to 5.30 p. m.
  • Study Room : 7.30 a.m. to 5.30 p. m.
  • Night Study Room : 7.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

LIBRARY READING HALL

The Library has a specious reading hall for the benefit of Junior, Senior and PG students. In the library, boys’ study room, girls’ Study room and staff study room facility are provided separately. The present seating capacity of the boys’ study room, girls’ Study room and staff study room is around 54, 54 and 18 respectively. The timing of the reading room is between 7.30 a. m. to 5.30 p. m. In the reading room Reference books, textbooks, Competitive examination books, periodicals and question paper sets are made available on identity card as per the demand of the students.

NIGHT READING ROOM FACILITY

As per the demand received through suggestion box and students feedback, Shankarrao Mohite Mahavidyalaya night reading room have established in 1998 to provide reading facilities for the students of Junior, MCVC, Senior and Post Graduate. The night reading room facility is provided in the college campus in a separate hall. The present seating capacity of night reading room is around 100 to 125. The night reading room is open between 7.00 p. m. to 11.00 p. m. In the night reading room, textbooks and periodicals are made available on identity card as per the demand of the students. The night reading room service is run by the students of earn and learn scheme.
  • ‘Two  Borrower tickets’ has issued to all students of Junior/MCVC, Senior and Post Graduation after the admission.
  • ‘Five Borrower tickets’ has issued to the Ph. D. students and Three Borrower tickets’ has issued to the M. Phil. students after the admission.
  • One textbook or other reference book has issued on Borrower ticket for seven days.
  • Reference books and textbooks are issued on Identity card for a day to each student as per the demand.
  • Those students appearing for MPSC, UPSC, NDA, Banking, Railway, MBA, NET/SET, ICWA, CA and other competitive examinations, the library provide this facility seperately. (for details, please contact Librarian)
  • We provide open access facility to the 12th standard, T.Y. of Senior and Post Graduate Students.

I) BIBLIOGRAPHIC SERVICE:

This service is provided to make the users aware of number of     documents available in their subject. It is useful to inform the users about physical details like author, title, Publisher and place of publication of the books. Faculty members and students of this college get the benefit of this scheme.

II) REFERENCE SERVICE:

Reference service is separate section in the library. At present, there are 983 reference books like dictionary; encyclopedias, Britannica yearbook, other yearbooks, directory etc. are available in our library. The reference books are issued on identity card for one day out of reference section to the students as per demand.

III) SERVICE TO OUTSTANDING STUDENTS:

Those students who have shown outstanding contribution in various activities of college like cultural, sports, NSS, NCC, stand in merit in 11th std., library gives one additional borrow card  to these students for unlimited time without any charges for the academic year.

IV) BOOKS FOR ENTRANCE/COMPETITIVE/NET-SET EXAMINATIONS:

Those students who have studied Competitive examination, MH CET, to get admission for medical/ engineering and others, the library provides related subject books. At present, there are 910 competitive examinations books available in various types of subjects like MPSC, UPSC, NDA, MBA, NET/SLET, CA, and ICWA Foundation in the library. Books for competitive examinations such as MPSC, UPSC, NDA, Banking, Railway, MBA, NET/SLET and CA Foundation are issued to the students on identity /borrower card to the students as per the demand. MH CET books also issued to the 12th std. students for seven days on Borrow Card.

V) AUDIO/VISUAL AIDS:

We provide C.D.s on demand to the staff of various types of departments. At present, there are 215 C.D.s and 15 audio cassettes available in the library. The Audio/Visual Aids are issued to faculty members on demand for a period of seven days and students for one day. We have purchased set of C.D’s (5 C. D) of Marathi Vishwakosh vol. 1-17. We also get free of cost C.D.s along with few books and few periodicals/ journals.

VI) AWARENESS AMONG USERS:

The aim of library is not only to provide the books, journals and other reading materials to users but also to make them aware of recent trends in educational, social and political events. Therefore, we display selected new books in display showcase “New Arrival”. We also display a list of all new added books on notice board as a books added in the library. Newspaper, clipping file, list of magazines are also displayed from time to time on the notice board of the library.

VII) PERIODICAL SECTION:

We are regular subscriber of 143 journals and periodicals/magazines of various research subjects and general magazines from UGC grants and non salary grant and post graduate non grant. Current research periodicals and general magazines are displayed on periodical rack and issues to the students for one day on Identity Card. Back issues of periodicals are made available for faculty members and students on Identity card after the demand. In addition, there are 15 daily newspapers in two sets available in the library. One set for faculty members and second set for students.

VIII) E-LIBRARY:

Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET), Inter-University Centre (IUC) of University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministery of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India have funded the e-resources programme entitled “National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)” on 4th May, 2010 at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi and the college has subscribed the same by paying subscription Rs. 5000/-. Under this scheme more than 2100 e-journals (including current issues with 5-10 years back PDF files) and 51,000 e-books of different national as well as international publishers’ books and research journals are made available to the faculty members and the students of our college for their research and study purpose.

IX) SERVICES TO SISTER INSTITUTES:

To support reading habits of users from sister institute of the college like B.Ed., D.Ed., D. Pharmacy, Home science, Agriculture and our others nearest branches of institute and Bank of India (SMM Extension Counter) are given books, general Magazines Research periodicals on demand according to rules of library.

X) READY REFERENCE SERVICES:

This Service is useful for students, faculty members and external students. We provide syllabi of the course to faculty members to get an overall idea about the course. In addition, the regular students are provided syllabus, question papers sets of last two years final exam to get an idea of the course and to prepare well in advance for the annual examination.

XI) DEPARTMENT LIBRARY:

We provide department library facility to all science departments of under graduate and post graduate. This facility is useful for all students and staff of science departments. Total nine departments are getting benefit of this facility.

XII) INTERNET FACILITY:

Library provides INTERNET facility free of cost to faculty members from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm where as total six hours/year is provided to the students at nominal fees. Register of Internet access is maintained in particular format by library.

For better use of library material and for betterment of library users, following some extra facilities are provided by the library.

I) EXTERNAL MEMBERSHIP:

We provide the library facility for those who are interested in read the books for various purposes like study, research and entertainment. Membership is available to
  • Past students of this college
  • service member from the society
  • Students preparing for MPSC, UPSC, NDA, MBA, NET/SET, ICWA, CA , Banking, Railway and other competitive examination
The Membership fees is Rs. 200/- per student per academic year and refundable deposit Rs. 500/-. During this academic year there are 15 students are admitted to this scheme. Now 42 students are taking the benefit of this scheme

II) BOOK BANK SCHEME:

Library runs Book Bank Scheme for the students of the college. This scheme is only for needy students with nominal fees. Only textbooks are issued through book bank scheme. We also issue a set of the textbooks to the students who stand in merit in 11th std. examination in our college.

III) COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION SCHEME:

We provide Competitive Examination Scheme for our regular students those who are studying for MPSC UPSC NET/SET etc exam. We provide separate additional Borrower Card with annual fee Rs. 200/- During this academic year, 15 students are admitted in this scheme and taking benefit of this scheme

IV) EARN AND LEARN SCHEME:

The college runs ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’ to the poor and needy students of the college. The admission is given after interview of the students taken by committee members of the scheme. The work is allotted to them as per their interest. The students are working in the college office, Library and Library night study room. A student has to work at least two hours a day with remuneration Rs. 6/- per hour. The Earn and Learn Committee works under the guidance of Principal Dr. A. L. Deshmukh.

Library have varies sections which are arranged with correlation of user and Library Staff work. Sections are utilized for quick access of books. So that less time is consumed. Issuing Counter and Issuing Window are used for issuing of books. Generally we are issuing the books to the students on the Student Window. All the students’ problems and demands are solved by the Librarian & Assistant Librarian. The Library Attendants are available for students’ services during working hours. All types of Books i.e. Text Books; Reference Books & General reading Books are issued to the students.
In the stack section, all the books are arranged according to Dewey decimal classification system which gives more preference to Subject wise arrangement. Subject wise arrangement is done in stack section. The books are arranged according to DDC No i.e. 000— 900 000— General Works 100— Philosophy 200— Religion 300— Social Sciences 400— Language 500— Pure Science 600— Technology 700— Fine Arts 800— Literature 900—History & Geography We can find the books by following this seal numbers. Our Library books have easy access & we can get the books very easily.

Library provides 15 newspapers in two sets for students as well as faculty members. We have maintained separate section for newspaper. So users can read newspaper without any disturbance. We are proving 11 Marathi, 03 English & 01 Hindi newsPapers. We are also providing newspaper clipping service. We are keeping 01 years newspapers for reference purpose.
