About Department :

The Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Akluj, established Shankararao Mohite College in June 1967. Along with the establishment of the college, the Marathi department was also started. Initially starting with only five students, the Marathi department now has 50 to 60 students enrolled.

To enrich the literary awareness of the students in the Marathi department, lectures by expert professors in the subject are organized. Reference books from the Rabindranath Tagore Library are also made available from time to time. To cultivate an interest in folk literature, students collect oral traditions, grinding songs, riddles, and legends from this literary genre. Since 1993, the Government Maharshi Shankarrao Mohite-Patil Jayanti Celebration Committee has been organizing a Lavani competition to revive this folk art. Students have collected informative clippings from various newspapers about this competition. In addition, students participate in the University Youth Festival, Traditional Day celebrations, and lectures on various topics. High-quality literary works by students are published in the annual magazine 'Shivamrut'. In the 2010-11 annual issue, Ms. Smita Bankar, a student of the Marathi department, received the first prize from Solapur University for humorous literature.

Students who have graduated from the Marathi department are working in various positions such as professors, journalists, businessmen, in the armed forces, police, and as computer experts. To date, a total of 16 students have passed the NET and SET examinations, while some students are pursuing M.Phil. And Ph.D. research work with fellowships.

Since the establishment of the Marathi department, expert professors like Prof. Mehta Madam, Prof. Rajendra Das, and Dr. Dattatraya Barbole have contributed to the development of the students. Currently, Prof. Vinayak Suryawanshi, Dr. Janardhan Parkale, and Prof. Nayana Yadav are working in the department.
