Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Akluj taking into account the need of rural student to peruse higher education, started then Arts, Science and Commerce College at Akluj. In the year 1981, the Arts, Science and Commerce College has been named after the founder of the institute Shankarrao Mohite. History subject was introduced to B. A. III level as special subject in the year 1970. In 1970, the Department has been started with only ten to twelve students. At present there are sixty to seventy students admitted to the B. A. III special class with three lectures.
History lecturers have delivered open lectures on Educational, Religious and Social subjects. History Department regularly organized guide study tours of B.A. III class & M.A. II class for systematic study four of History subject. The Department has conducted various activities for the academic improvement of the students.
The achievement of Department in the field of Books. Dr. Rananaware has written eights books two booklets for B.A. and M.A. classes. Dr. Mrs. J. D. Rananaware has written seven books Dr. D. G. Magar was two books editor Dr. S. U. Pawar has written two books.
Initially Prof. M. K. Mane laid down the foundation of the Department in 1970. He was first lecturer and HOD of History department in college. He was gold medalist in History M.A. examination in Shivaji Universtiy, Kolhapur Dr. D.D. Rananaware joined the Department in 1974. Dr. D.D. Rananaware worked on different level committees and boards. He was worked as a member of management council (MC). Academic council (AC) Board of studies (BOS) Board of college and University Development (BCUD), Science Faculty (SSF) Research and Recognition committee (RRC) of Solapur University and Flexible committee. Then Dr. Mrs. J. D. Rananaware joined the Department in 1995. She was working HOD and a Senate Member of Solapur University, Solapur Now the Department is headed by Dr. D. G. Magar along with his colleges Dr. Sanjay Waghmare, Prof. Dr. S. U. Pawar.
The effective teaching method, regularity of students, group discussion, seminars help for the good tradition of result. Many students. have secured good marks in University Examination of P.A.H. Solapur University, Solapur and some have bee the recipients of the gold medals for getting first rank in university at M.A. (Entire) History) .
