Botany

Late Sahakar Maharshi Shankarrao Mohite Patil established senior college with two faculties namely Arts and Commerce to cater the needs of higher education of the people from Akluj and nearby villages.  In 1982, Shikshan Prasarak Mandal has started Science faculty with Botany as one of the optional subjects; with response to students demand, institute has started   B. Sc. (Hon.) course in Botany in the year 1988.  Since commencement of Botany department till now department is flourished academically.  The students of Botany have offered different post graduate courses like M.Sc. in Botany, Biotechnology, Genetics, Environmental Science, Forestry, AGPM, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology etc.  After completion of PG course some have passed NET and SET examinations and now they are working in the field of education as Professors, Teachers, Agricultural Officers in Agro-based Industries.  Some students have passed competitive examinations and joined administrative field as P.I., Tahasildar, Lawyer etc.  Many students have joined different Research and Development departments as Scientists, Scientific Assistants, Project Assistants etc.  Being a Botany student some students have started their own businesses like Food industry, Plant nutrient industry, Dairy industry, Nursery, Goat farms, Poultry etc. The department also runs various activities like Certificate Course in Food Processing and Fruit Preservation, Organization of Workshops and Seminars, Different Exhibitions and Guest Lectures of eminent persons in the field of Botany and other related subjects.  Our department is also collaborated with Walchand College of Arts and Science, Solapur and Shrimati Ratnaprabhadevi Mohite Patil Home Science College for Women, Akluj.  Department has started post graduation course as M.Sc. (AGPM) from 2007 for which in addition to CHB appointed staff our departmental staff is also engaging teaching classes.
